As I read Proverbs 4:18 and Matthew 5:14 and Matthew 5:16 I think of "the awesome responsibility of God's People". "But the path of the just (God's people) is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day." "Ye are the light of the world. a city that is set on an hill cannot be hid." "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Proverbs 4:19 tells us that "the way of the wicked (anyone that does not know God) is darkness", and like Paul in Acts 26:18 we are called "To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me (Jesus)." "Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:" Colossians 1:13.
Imagine having a flashlight in your hand and you are in a totally dark building with other people that are counting on you to show them the way out, as this building, for some reason, is threatening to kill you all unless you soon leave. You know the way out (the plan of salvation). You have the flashlight (Jesus Christ, the light of the world, John 8:12), but have you even switched it on (are you living the victorious Christian life, and are you sharing the gospel with anyone)? John 15:5 says we can't do anything without Jesus, but Philippians 4:13 says we can do all things through Christ. May we let Him have control in our lives, and work through us, that others may see the light and be saved, and "grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever, Amen." 2 Pe 3:18
