We all deserve Hell for our sin, but can have eternal life through Christ. If you don't know Christ as your Saviour dont wait another day. We are not promised tomorrow. Eternally there are two places Heaven or Hell. Just pray and ask God to save you, forgive you of your sins, But you must believe in your Heart that Christ is the son of God and died on the cross for your sins. Rose again on the third day.

Does works have anything to do with your salvation? No
No I am sorry works will not get you to Heaven. Believing with just head belief will not either. I believed in God growing up, but it was not until I trusted in Christ as my Saviour I became a changed man and knew I was saved.
Usualy people who believe and teach this, get it from reading James and not undersdtanding the book. You should look at who James is talking to in this book. He is writing to a scattered flock of believers. Telling them to justify their faith with works. Show your faith. At this time those he is writing to are hiding their faith in fear of persecution. He is trying to get them motivated to work and follow Christ. He is right faith without works is dead. If your saved but not doing the works we are saved unto your missing the blessings of God. Works are important in a Christian life. They help us grow as a Christian, and let us see the blessing of God. They are also a great way to witness to others. Plus its our duty as a Chritisan, but we will never be able to earn salvation, or God's grace with works.
I could start listing scripture in every book of the Bible and the whole book of Romans. None say believe and do good works to be saved.
Romans 4:3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
Abraham was counted as righteous because he trusted God. His works just showed it.
What about the thief on the cross, did Christ tell him to bad you did not do enough works.
How many people did Jesus tell thy faith have saved thee. Never told them anything about having to work for it. May have tested their faith by asking them to do something.

Ephesians 2:8-10
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
We are saved by grace through faith unto good works.
If it was up to me to be good enough to get into Heaven I am going to Hell. None is good, no not one.
Do you believe what Christ done on the cross is not enough to keep you saved? Do you believe you are good enough to go to Heaven and Christ died in vain? Is it not the job of the shepherd to keep the sheep?
Did Jesus not say he is the way, the truth and the light?
John 14:5-6 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6 Jesussaithunto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
