Rightly Divide The Word Of Truth

  1. Source: Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words
Greek orthotomeo - English dividing - Strongs 3718: Divide
"to cut straight" is found in 2 Tim 2:15 "rightly dividing,"
2 Tim 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, "rightly dividing the word of truth".
(NOTE: We divide by cutting a straight line)

Question: Where do we cut the straight dividing line in the word of truth?

Answer: Christ's, death, resurrection & the outpouring of the indwelling Holy Spirit.

Heb 9:15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
(NOTE: The New Testament/Covenant doesn't begin until after Christ's death & resurrection)

It's not until a sinless Christ's sin atoning death = (sins required wage paid), burial (proof Christ died) & resurrection = (Gods receipt, payment received & accepted).

    Matt 27:
50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost

    51 Behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
(NOTE: Christ dies, the Temple veil tears as Christ passes through it, breaking the spiritual barrier. Sin had seperated man from God's presents. The old covenant/testament ends, right here, in resurrection power! Thru faith in Christs FINISHED sin redemptive payment. We can come boldly unto the throne of grace - Heb 4:16)

    Heb 9:
16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.

Heb 9:17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.
(NOTE: While Christ is alive the old covenant is in full force)

    John 7:
38 Jesus said; He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water
39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Spirit was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified)
(NOTE: Jesus foretells of the giving/out pouring of the Holy Spirit to be given to believers. AFTER his glorification = Resurrection)

The ratification of the New Covenant is a process that began with Christ's death & resurrection. Next, Christ enters into the presence of God & the Holy Place made without hands Heb 9:24. Here Christ preforms His Priestly duty in the heavenly sanctuary with his sinless shed blood.

The final step in the New Covenant ratification is the outpouring/Baptism of the indwelling Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4) which only Christ can do. See Matt 3:11 & Acts 2:33)
