The life of GOD is the key to the progress and development of men. This was made evidently clear in John 1:4 where John declared, 'in him was life and the life was the light of men'. The word light here stands for development. Even for God no progress was made until the light was created, so GOD said let their 'be light' and from that moment onward progress was made (Genesis 1:1-3)But without the life of GOD, there is no light(progress/development) for men!
Hence when GOD created man in Genesis 2:7 he 'breathed' the 'breath of life' into man and man became a living soul! And from that moment on man invigorated by the life of GOD began to carry out his duties in the same range of power and wavelength with GOD! Consider that the first man, ADAM, single-handedly named all the animals in the world - whether carnivore, herbivore or omnivore. Whether it be animals in the air, land or sea, Adam named all of them! Now, this was original creativity at work powered by the life of GOD in man! It was the mental excellence of the purest and highest order! This was the zenith and peak of mental aptitude and excellence!
We all know what followed from here, this life of GOD was lost to sin until when GOD sent his only begotten son 'that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have eternal life' which was originally what man lost at the garden! And the son came declaring in John 10:10 that his mission was to restore that life! And then he went further in John 14:6 to boldly declare that he was that life! This life he hath received from the father (John 5:26) is the same life that he gives to as many as receives him!
‘26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself’
This is why in the gospels Jesus spent a considerable time talking about this life; 70 times he used the word life! More than half of the times he mentioned this life he was referring to the Zoë life of God for there are two other kinds of life that Jesus use in the gospels apart from the Zoe life. There was 'bios' and 'Psuche'
Bios, in Luke 8:14: “…anxieties and riches and pleasure of this life.” This Greek word refers to the life of the physical body and is where we get the word biology.
Psuche, in Matt. 16:25: “For whoever wants to save his soul-life shall lose it.” The Greek word here refers to the psychological life of the human soul, that is, the mind, emotion, and will. It is where we get the word psychology.
Zoe, in John 1:4: “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” Here the Greek word refers to the uncreated, eternal life of God, the divine life uniquely possessed by God.
This is the life that was used in John 3:16, John 6, John 10:10, John 14:6 and others! It is the life we now possessed by faith in the Lord Jesus! This Zoe is translated to mean: 'of the absolute fullness of life, both essential and ethical, which belongs to God, life real and genuine, a life active and vigorous, devoted to God, blessed, in the portion even in this world of those who put their trust in Christ'.
