(I wrote this a week ago for some future use. Learning of the shootings in PA, I see it, unfortunately, as all too pertinent—but in Christ, there is a great consolation)
Men will just go on killing each other, with bullets, words, and negligent ways. History has taught us, we can’t get around it; we must fall on God’s mercy or stumble over ourselves. So many slogans and promises made, competing for space in our hearts against grace.
Wipe off the sting of the smoke from all battles, see how the sheep of the flock fare far better! Better to be called, and in response to be chosen, than to mill in the chaos where harm knows no end, better the Shepherd, whose words lead to knowing, the kind where fear and vengefulness are sheered from our thinking and trust coats our minds and remains in our actions.
