I don’t think puppies are racist. They seem to get along fine regardless of color. Maybe we have something to learn from puppies. Puppies seem to have three primary interests – playing, eating, and sleeping. If only life were that simple. Humans have history to deal with.
Unfortunately, it seems inevitable we are going to have to deal with racism until Jesus returns to set the world straight. The devil has everything so tangled up in knots we will likely always have people who can’t open their eyes to the truth. Thankfully, as Christians we can come together in one accord. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to see beyond the history and let go of our individual bias. We are called to see all believers as a single entity known as the body of Christ.
“So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
Galatians 3:26-28 (NIV)
Probably the most productive thing we can do about racism is to continue to spread the gospel. There is no amount of discussion or debate that will resolve all the racial differences humanity has accumulated. The only absolutely rock solid way beyond racism is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. When we travel together in the footsteps of Jesus, there is no room for racism. When we are focused on loving our neighbor, there is no room for racism. When loving God is our focus, racism disappears.
