Qualification For God's Mercy

"Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”" (Exodus 33:19 NKJV)

Whereas, it is God's prerogative to decide who is a candidate of His grace and mercy. God reserves the right to choose who benefits from this wonderful blessedness. But the Bible also says in Psalms 51:17 "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, You will not despise."
It also says in James 4:6 "But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble""
God will not look away from a broken and contrite spirit. He will not despise the person that humbles himself or herself. He will give them more grace. Therefore, brokenness of heart and humility will position someone to be a candidate of God's mercy. A proud man or woman can never receive God's mercy. He will send such people away empty( Luke 1:50-53). He will always resist and opposes the proud.
Everyone God resisted and opposed in the scriptures were full of pride. Cain, Nebuchadnezzar, Pharaoh, and Herod were proud people. Nebuchadnezzar repented and God had mercy and compassion on him. Others perished in their arrogance and pride.

ACTION PLAN: Check your heart today, are there some measure of pride and self-will?

PRAYER: Father, uproot every pride and self-will in my heart.
