Prayers Of David: Lord Teach Me Thy Way

TEXT: PSALM 25:1-16

'Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul. 2 O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. 3 Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause. 4 Show me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. 5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. 6 Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old. 7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness' sake, O LORD. 8 Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will he teach sinners in the way. 9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way. 10 All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies. 11 For thy name's sake, O LORD, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great. 12 What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose. 13 His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth. 14 The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will show them his covenant. 15 Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net. 16 Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted.

In this beautiful Psalm David celebrated the power of REVELATION and beg God earnestly for it: 'Lord teach me your ways', 'Lord show me your ways", these were the words of King David, a man who pants after the ways of God and sought for it with all his heart. In this chapter alone David asked to be taught, led or shown the way of the Lord about 8 times. No wonder God called him the man after his heart, all his heart desires was to receive God's revelation for every situation! When that becomes our desire, receiving divine revelations for every earthly situations, we are set on the path of consistent manifestations and victories!

Look at what Psalm 25:12-13 says about what happens when we seek the path of God's teaching, "What man is he that feareth the Lord? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose. His soul shall dwell at ease, and his seed shall inherit the earth". Simply put, the man that God teach will always be at ease. He will not only be at ease but also, but he and his seed will also inherit the land. Knowledge or revelation, therefore, clears the pathway to our inheritance in life and inheritance in God! It is the path to profiting. Like the prophet Isaiah pointed out in Isaiah 48:17, "Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go". God's teaching is the pathway to our profiting in life!

The word teach appears in the bible 108 times 25 times out of this was in the book of Psalms, meaning a whopping 23% mention of the word TEACH came from David. And we must all admit that David was well taught by the lord. The following facts are well established to prove this.

The psalms remain the most popular book in the bible, read even by people of other faith!
It is the biggest book in the bible - 150 chapters.
Has the longest chapter in the bible Psalm 119
The book of Psalms and Isaiah's remains the most quoted text in the new testament. Our Lord and Savior Jesus quoted more from the book of Psalms and Isaiah more than any other books of the Bible and the Apostles were not left out too as they quoted extensively from its text
More than been a book of prayer and praise, the book of Psalms was a prophetic book that speaks about the coming Messiah more than any other book, except probably the book of Isaiah! Everything about the birth of Christ, his life and his death were all revealed to David in the psalms. No wonder some Psalms are referred to as the messianic psalms.
Another word similar to teach that David used was 'shew', it appeared 24 times, while the word 'teacheth' appeared 3 times. All of them ringing the same tune of a man that is dependent on God for revelations and directions!
