A model for the present-day church
No church or no Individual models the lifestyle Jesus had in mind as the ultimate for the believer like the church in Acts of the Apostles! It was a power-driven church! It was a church birth on the platform of God's power, grew on that platform and dominated the world through power!
‘And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all.’ (Acts 4:33)
Acts 1:8 summarises God intent for us as believers; we will be empowered to make impacts and exploits in our world for him! And at the root of our taking the over the world is the seal of God placed on us - that is the Holy Spirit!
‘But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
The ultimate church is the one driven by the power of God! The ultimate believer is the one led by the power of the Spirit! Romans 8:14 tells us that the real proof of our sonship is the Holy Spirit at work in us! ‘For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God’
The power of the Holy Spirit is the basis for our declaration as sons of God! Romans 1:4 says this about Jesus: "And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead”
Romans 1:4 KJV. The declaration of his Sonship was with power and so will our own declaration be! For as the father has sent him so he has sent us! We are to be driven by the power of the Spirit! Our churches are not just to be purpose driven churches but power-driven churches, because ultimately the purpose of God for the church is to be an ark bearer of his power to the world!
In the book of John Jesus tells us what will happen when the Holy Spirit lives in us, but in the book of Acts we see a demonstration of all that he said - how ordinary people led extraordinary lives because of the power of God was at work in them! It got to a point they became wary of them, 'the men who turned the world upside down are here'. That was an admission that the early day believers dominated their world. They were over the world and not under it!
This is still God’s desire for his church on the earth: to be an institution of not just grammar but power. For it is through the power of God that Zion will rule in the midst of her enemies (Psalm 110:1-3)
