Pondering Proverbs 23 - Costing Your Discipleship

By Quasiblogo · Feb 13, 2020 ·
  1. Proverbs 23:23 ~ Buy truth and do not sell it. Buy wisdom, discipline, and knowledge.

Have you ever "costed" your discipleship? If you have, you have sold--giving everything out to buy truth. You do not spend it on yourself ("sell"), but to invest in the Kingdom of God. The truth, as it has come in precious packages of wisdom, discipline, and knowledge, is flavored with the Gospel. It becomes everything to you. Like a soldier, you fall in line and obey instructions. Over time you can even anticipate some commands. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in the affairs of everyday life. If he does, he will not please the one who enlisted him (2 Timothy 2:4).

How is this single-mindedness achieved? Proverbs 23:26 shows us: My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes be pleased with my ways. We surrender our hearts and esteem the Way of Jesus to be superior and more desirable to all else. Energized by this devotion, we serve God and the humanity for which He has compassion (Matthew 22:37-40).

Your costing* of your discipleship should result in a heart appraisal and response that equals the value of the Pearl of Great Price (Matthew 13:45-46).
