It was easier to instruct others in the precepts and principles of God. It is a different thing altogether, to practice what we preach. It is easier to criticize others in the light of God's word, but very difficult to point the light of God's word to our lives. God is not looking for eloquent preachers who will only preach but are not binded by His word.
"For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the Lord , and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel." (Ezra 7:10 NKJV)
There is a heart preparation that a preacher must do in order to be a ready scribe. You must prepare your heart and remove everything that will hinder God's word from sinking deep in your heart.
When your heart has been fully prepared, the next important thing is to apply the word in your private life. It is hypocritical to preach what you have neither practiced or intend to practice.
The final stage must not be taken for granted. You have prepared your heart, apply the word of God to your life and still fail to teach the truth. It is awesome to allow our lives to preach the word, but anytime the opportunity present itself, we must be ready to teach and preach the truth. Paul charged Timothy to preach the word of God at every opportunity, we must be such ready scribe as well. We must be ready and available to communicate the truth of the gospel to someone at the slightest opportunity.
ACTION PLAN: Do not continue to be distracted into thinking that preaching the word will make up for your own deficiencies, you must make effort to apply God's word to your life.
