When we are in our twenties we feel immortal. There is no hint of death. I was a typically unhinged secular youth, looking for satisfaction in all its forms. My philosophy was: squeeze as much fun, as you can out of life, before you die. God is kinda boring, a party pooper.
I was blissfully unaware of the importance of caring. Really caring about myself and others. The deeper kind. Not the selfish, greedy kind.
The value of each minute of our lives. I might have to wait at the doctor's surgery, or at a traffic light, or in a supermarket checkout queue. Impatience will often turn to annoyance to self-pity. "Why me." We need to take our time and not be such a hurry.
But in the work-place, our speed and efficiency will be valued. Time will fly as we try to please the boss. I would've preferred to take my time but the kingdom of making a living isn't the same as the Kingdom of God. God prefers us to take our time...I think.
We really need to have the big picture in our head all the time. Not get caught up in the problem of the hour. The problem of the hour will pass. But if we continue to ignore God, there will be eternal consequences.
