Offer Your Bodies As Living Sacrifices

Today, the Lords day (as each day should be), is the time for each of us to fully surrender ourselves as “living sacrifices” to serve the kingdom of heaven. This is exactly what Christ did for us, and He asks this of all who make the claim to know Him. “Therefore I urge you, brothers, on account of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:1-2) Therefore, if you truly wish to worship the one true living God you must surrender your own desires here on earth to do the will of the Father.

Moreover, we must put the Lord first in all things we do or say as we love all others in this world just as Christ taught us to. “Love must be sincere. Detest what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Outdo yourselves in honoring one another. Do not let your zeal subside; keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, persistent in prayer. Share with the saints who are in need. Practice hospitality.” (Romans 12:9-13) True fellowship comes through spiritual encounters with our brothers and sisters as we serve the kingdom together sharing love and ministering to all who are in need. It is not our part to decide whom we will minister to; this is up to our Lord according to the will of the Father as guided by the Holy Spirit. We are not here to judge, but instead we are here to carry out the will of the Father by sacrificing ourselves for His good purpose.

Therefore, “Bless those who persecute you. Bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but enjoy the company of the lowly. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Carefully consider what is right in the eyes of everybody.” (Romans 12:14-17) This is how we are called to live out our days in this world until the day the Lord takes us to our home in heaven. However, none of this can be done in our own strength, intellect, or spirit. Hence, we must empty ourselves of our own desires to be filled up with the Holy Spirit who alone can fulfil the will of the Father. This is how Jesus taught us to live in both word and deed in all He did throughout His earthly ministry.
