Observations About The Mark Of The Beast...

Extra details gleaned from Rev. 13:16-18
  1. Once, while considering Revelations 13, I noticed some details about the Mark of the Beast that I have never seen proposed anywhere else. I thought that I would post them here for, uh, posterity. :sorry:

    From Rev. 13 NKJV,
"16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has
    • the mark or
    • the name of the beast, or
    • the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666."

    From the NIV,
"17 so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is
    • the name of the beast or
    • the number of its name."

    1. Depending on the intended punctuation of v. 17, the mark of the Beast will take either two or three forms. Only one of them is a number.
    2. That means that some will choose an alternative that contains no number at all. (That rules out distinct ID codes for each individual. Such would have to be universal to work.)
    3. Both translations include "the name of the beast." That would be his name spelled out.
    4. If the NKJV's third option is correct, such a mark would be a logo much like a royal seal.
    5. The only thing that these three options have in common is their willful declaration of loyalty (to a particular person). Though caution is due, no one will likely get any of these apart from such a willful decision.
Three more points about the "number,"
    1. From the original Greek, 666 is χξς.* That means that it will be a quantitative 600[χ]+60[ξ]+6[ς], not just three sixes strung together.
    2. From v.18, only "[he] who has understanding" [those with the Holy Spirit] will recognize its numerality (when the time comes). Unbelievers will not.
    3. Nobody knows for sure what is meant by "the number" of one's name. His initials would be a good guess, consistent with the rationale given above, but ς [for 6] does not occur in the upper case.¹ The closest approximation would be ΧΞΣ** which is not a valid notation for any number. (That doesn't rule out initials in the letter/number system of a different language, though [like, say, Babylonian?].)
*The Hebrews, Greeks & Romans all used letters from their alphabets as numerals.
**Upper-case "F" (known as digamma) was used for 6 in ancient Greek, but that was no longer in practice when John wrote Revelations.

¹ Update 20190110: related "Ç" [C-cedilla] DOES occur in the upper case, such that "CXÇ" would be the Latin-transliterated initials matching the Greek "χξς."

666 in Hebrew is WWW, or world wide web...

Maybe if the web gets connected to a new global financial system... Truth be told I really don't know that much about it, just remember hearing that 666 is WWW in Hebrew...?

      God Bless!

Your rationale is for 6, 6, 6 (not 600+60+6). If fulfilled in Roman numerals, χξς = DCLXVI.

Color me skeptical that it should be a technological medium/venue absent a human figurehead. (You realize that you submitted your response on a computer, don't you?)

It could be a holographic mark as well, not viewable by naked eye... or the chips could be used for tracking from satellites, the ones for dogs having been a beta program?

Each decade it seems, someone "evil" promoting the NWO has been identified by the Christian community. Many skeptics use this as naysaying against the idea altogether. I say that satan does not know "the exact date and time" that he will need to put his "antichrist" into play so he creates/develops/grooms one for each period of time, always at the ready.

Still, we are in the last days before the tribulation...the false prophet has been identified beyond all probability, non-replaceable in all probability... whether believers will see the temple built and the treaty signed before the rapture is uncertain...but the antichrist has to be ready right now, in the world... many suspect he will be age 33, the age of Christ since he will be the antichrist/faux Christ. IDK if we will see his revealing prior to being taken out but I'm ready to go in a minute or so right now!
