Obedience

I'm surprised at how many people really have an issue with this word "obedience" when it comes to application to doing what God says and it's application to their faith. The word is mentioned and all of a sudden some are screaming "law", "rules", etc.. Really? Why is this word such an issue? If you're a parent don't you expect that your children "obey"? Why should God's children have any different expectation from God?

Romans 6:16 Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?

The bottom line is we are all obedient to someone. If not God then it's that other guy. Obedience to God is good, obedience to the other guy is bad. Even a child could understand that.

This word obedience should be viewed as an encouragement. Scripture tells us that we are free to do what is right. We are no longer in bondage. So when we fail we should just own up to it that that is Gods way of showing us where in our lives there are still things that need to be given over to Him. That's not bad. Run TO Him not away from Him. He's not going to pounce on you. He wants to love on you and encourage you in your walk with Him.

There are things in my own life where I know I'm falling shorten what God has called me to. But that does not discourage me. No, it encourages me to continue to draw near to Him and as more of HIM fills me then there is less of me.

I do whatever I'm able to do, as He shows me the need to change, continuing to keep my eyes on Him, knowing that He has promised to complete in me what He has started. He's given me the power I
need to overcome.
