Notes On The Second Book Of Corinthians - Part 3 - Chapters 9-13

I continue this study with Chapters 9-13, which discusses, amongst other things, charity, Paul's ministry and false apostles.

Notes on Chapters 9-13

  • "Whoever sows sparingly, will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work." (2 Corinthians 9:6-8).
  • "He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to produce thanksgiving to God." (2 Corinthians 9:10-11).
  • This giving also, as discussed in the previous section, redounds in prayers of thanksgiving and so there the seeds sown by giving reap the crop of thanksgiving, to the glory of God (2 Corinthians 9:12).
  • We must destroy every thought that tries to lift us up and consequently separate us from God (2 Corinthians 10:5). All thoughts should be taken captive to obedience to Christ and we need to be vigilant in this (2 Corinthians 10:5-6).
  • Don't compare yourself to another (2 Corinthians 10:12).
  • Do not step out of (that is beyond) the gifts or grace God has given you for ministry (2 Corinthians 10:13).
  • Boast in the Lord not in your works because it is the Lord who commends us (2 Corinthians 10:17-18)
  • We should bear it if we are enslaved, devoured, or taken advantage of, or if someone is arrogant, or strikes us (2 Corinthians 10:20). I do not think in regards to some of these this means you continue to allow it if you can avoid it but do forgive it if it happens.
  • Boast in your weaknesses not your strengths (2 Corinthians 11:30). When you are weak then you are strong (2 Corinthians 12:10).
  • "Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?" (2 Corinthians 13:5).
  • "Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you." (2 Corinthians 13:11).
"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all." (2 Corinthians 13:14).
