No Quick Fix

I woke up this morning absolutely exhausted. Despite this I went to school. I was so tired I was falling asleep at the computer. Finally around 12 I had had enough. My kids are in daycare so I left school early to go home and get a nap before I have to pick them up. I seriously couldn't function with how tired I was.
But you know something, I smile because God can even use my exhauscion to bring Him glory.
I say that because I woke up a few minutes ago with this on my mind.
When we are not getting enough of Him in our lives there is no quick fix. When we are physically hungry but have a long way to go to our next meal we may be able to have a snack and sustain ourselves. Having a snack is a quick fix. When we are severely tired we may have some coffee, or evidently wash with caffeine soap ;) , or come home and take a nap. Quick fixes.
Think about what a quick fix is. It is a temporary solution. It is just enough to get you by. My nap this afternoon is just enough to get me by to stay awake the rest of the day. The Goldfish crackers I munched on in the car on the way to school where just enough to get me by so I didn't starve. Lol. ( yes breakfast truly is important).
Friends I don't know about you, but when it comes to needing more of God I want more than just enough to get by. If you have been reading my blogs (bless your heart!) Then you understand this message, if we are to call it that, is as much for me as it is for anyone else. I'm telling you now the words I feel placed on my heart to say.
When we need more God, when our spirit is tired, hungry, and thirsty, there is no quick fix. We can't say "Ill just go to church this once" , or " I'll behave myself just today and see what happens" and expect lasting results. When it comes to having more of God, we can't just get by with just enough. We have to give it our all, fully commit.
Another analogy that came to me is when you have one of those racers in NASCAR that just refuses to make a pit stop. They are running the rubber right off their tires. They're ready to burn out and their car is falling apart but they keep trying to make it on their own. They are running ragged and they need more than just a quick fix.
God is our pit stop. He is our place of ultimate rest. ("Come ye all that labor and are heavy burden and I will give you rest" that may not be an exact quote but it's in there!) When we are driving around and around and we're about to break but we don't stop, He's right there waiting on us patiently. Just like that racer's pit crew. Whether or not a driver takes advantage of his crew, they are always there waiting.
I don't know about you guys but I'm tired of driving around. I'm tired of quick fixes. Tired of just getting by. I need more You God.
Let us all decrease Lord, as You increase. Let our hunger and thirst never be satisfied but have us ever draw closer to You. May we press in deeper, and deeper. And when we struggle, let us not carry on in our own strength, but find rest in You.
And everyone says? Amen and Amen.
( my pastor ends prayer this way)
Bless you all
