What got me into the topic was on reading up on Gnosticism many years ago. While the Gnostics, were heretics in many dogmatic ways, they were actually close to the truth in other ways biblically speaking. Due to the various heretical movements, Christians today often see gnosis as a kind of a dirty word, or pejorative, but there are many ways that traditional orthodox Christianity unofficially embraces gnosis.
