My Creative Journeys Part 4: Writing

Part 4: Writing

-Beginnings-
Until fifth grade, I didn't like writing; I only wrote for school most of the time. When I was five and six years old, I'd either make my stories with only illustrations and no or very few words, or I'd ask my dad to add the writing for me. When I was seven years old, however, I started adding writing myself, but it still wasn't a hobby.

This is a short story I wrote and illustrated at age nine, in the first half of 2006:

The Rainy Day

One day, Jolteon heard thunder. He was very excited. He woke up from his nap and opened one eye to peek.

Then, Jolteon went over to the window.

Jolteon looked out the window.

Then, Jolteon turned his head around and started running around the room.

Then, BAM! Jolteon bumped into Flareon.

Then Jolteon jumped out the window. But Flareon told him to come back, so he jumped back in.

Then Vaporeon jumped out and got struck by lightning. She flew back into the house and Jolteon and Flareon closed the window. Oh, no! thought Flareon. She and Jolteon stared at Vaporeon.

When Vaporeon got better, they took a nap. After they took a nap, it was not raining anymore, so they played outside.

The End

Then in October 2006, when I was 10 years old, I wrote my first original story that wasn't a school assignment-it was the first story in a short series about some original animal characters I made. I enjoyed it and writing became a hobby for me!

-Stories, Songs, and Poems!-
Over the years I wrote many stories. At first they were usually about original characters. In April 2007 I wrote my first fanfiction and then wrote both original stories and fanfictions for a little while. Early in 2008 I switched to writing mainly fanfictions.

I wrote my first song sometime in 2003 or 2004 and wrote some more over the years, but it wasn't until 2008 that it became a hobby. At first my songs were all different lengths and not organized very well, but in the second half of 2010 I improved my songwriting style, writing them in verses and choruses as real songs are written. The majority of my songs are about friendship and are related to stories I made. I wrote songs often from 2008 to 2011, but in 2012 my ideas for new songs slowed down and it became less of a hobby.

I've written some poems over the years, but it was never as much of a hobby as story-writing and songwriting.

-Where I Am Now-
I've worked hard at my story-writing. I've learned a lot about the format of stories and about how to add detail and write descriptively. I still write stories often, and I'm always working to improve!

Currently, I'm working on a fanfiction series called Metroid: Mission Alpha. You can find it here: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12497706/1/Metroid-Mission-Alpha

I rarely write songs or poems anymore, but once in a while one will come to me that I'll write down.

If you want to see some more of my stories, you can find them on my Fanfiction. That's my writing journey! :)
