Murtha

Wednesday, October 29, 2008, 5:37 a.m. – I woke to this song again:

How You Live / Point of Grace
Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
'Cause you won't regret it
Lookin' back from where you have been
'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It's how you live

I also woke from A DREAM: I dreamed about a passage of scripture and its fulfillment. I don’t remember what the passage of scripture was only that it was about someone leading people into something. Then, I had a dream within the dream showing the fulfillment of what I had just read. END

When I woke from the dream, I heard the name “Murtha.”

John Patrick “Jack” Murtha, Jr. (born 17 June, 1932) is an American politician from the U.S. state of Pennsylvania.
A Democrat, Murtha has served in the United States House of Representatives since 1974, representing Pennsylvania's 12th congressional district. The district includes a large swath of southwestern Pennsylvania, stretching from Johnstown (the largest city in the district and Murtha's hometown) to the eastern and southern suburbs of Pittsburgh.[1] Murtha is best known for his calls for a withdrawal of American forces in Iraq.

Murtha made a bid to run for House Majority Leader[2] after the Democrats won control of Congress in the 2006 midterm elections, and was supported by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.[3] On 16 November, 2006, Steny Hoyer was elected as House Majority Leader over Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania by a margin of 149-86 within the caucus.[4] Despite this defeat, Murtha is now chairman of the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee in the 110th Congress. He had previously chaired this subcommittee from 1989 to 1995 and served as its ranking Democrat from 1995 to 2007… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Murtha

Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. I read Ezekiel 29:

A Prophecy Against Egypt
1 In the tenth year, in the tenth month on the twelfth day, the word of the LORD came to me: 2 "Son of man, set your face against Pharaoh king of Egypt and prophesy against him and against all Egypt. 3 Speak to him and say: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says:
" 'I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt,
you great monster lying among your streams.
You say, "The Nile is mine;
I made it for myself."
4 But I will put hooks in your jaws
and make the fish of your streams stick to your scales.
I will pull you out from among your streams,
with all the fish sticking to your scales.
5 I will leave you in the desert,
you and all the fish of your streams.
You will fall on the open field
and not be gathered or picked up.
I will give you as food
to the beasts of the earth and the birds of the air.

6 Then all who live in Egypt will know that I am the LORD.
" 'You have been a staff of reed for the house of Israel. 7 When they grasped you with their hands, you splintered and you tore open their shoulders; when they leaned on you, you broke and their backs were wrenched.

8 " 'Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will bring a sword against you and kill your men and their animals. 9 Egypt will become a desolate wasteland. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
" 'Because you said, "The Nile is mine; I made it," 10 therefore I am against you and against your streams, and I will make the land of Egypt a ruin and a desolate waste from Migdol to Aswan, as far as the border of Cush. 11 No foot of man or animal will pass through it; no one will live there for forty years. 12 I will make the land of Egypt desolate among devastated lands, and her cities will lie desolate forty years among ruined cities. And I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them through the countries.

13 " 'Yet this is what the Sovereign LORD says: At the end of forty years I will gather the Egyptians from the nations where they were scattered. 14 I will bring them back from captivity and return them to Upper Egypt, the land of their ancestry. There they will be a lowly kingdom. 15 It will be the lowliest of kingdoms and will never again exalt itself above the other nations. I will make it so weak that it will never again rule over the nations. 16 Egypt will no longer be a source of confidence for the people of Israel but will be a reminder of their sin in turning to her for help. Then they will know that I am the Sovereign LORD.' "

17 In the twenty-seventh year, in the first month on the first day, the word of the LORD came to me: 18 "Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon drove his army in a hard campaign against Tyre; every head was rubbed bare and every shoulder made raw. Yet he and his army got no reward from the campaign he led against Tyre. 19 Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am going to give Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will carry off its wealth. He will loot and plunder the land as pay for his army. 20 I have given him Egypt as a reward for his efforts because he and his army did it for me, declares the Sovereign LORD.

21 "On that day I will make a horn grow for the house of Israel, and I will open your mouth among them. Then they will know that I am the LORD."

'Rednecks' cracks may cost Murtha

Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) is in an unexpectedly tight race for an 18th term after effectively calling the constituents of his southwestern Pennsylvania district racists and rednecks.

Earlier this month, he told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s editorial board that “there’s no question Western Pennsylvania is a racist area” in response to a question about Barack Obama’s prospects in his district. A week after apologizing, he told a local Pittsburgh TV station that “this whole area, years ago, was really redneck.”

Both comments were captured on videotape, and replayed constantly on local and cable news. Even "Saturday Night Live" got in the act, airing a parody of Murtha at a rally with a Joe Biden character making offensive comments.

Though Murtha, the influential chairman of the House Defense Appropriations subcommittee, has brought back $160 million in earmarks to his economically struggling district in the southwest of the state so far this year, he's slipped in the polls since making the comments… http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14966.html

My understanding so far here is that the Lord is saying that Congressman Murtha is:
  • A great lying monster
  • A leader that his people depend on; they lean on him for support
  • A leader whose ability to provide needed support is fragile
  • A leader who, when pressure comes (or came), snaps or snapped
  • An unreliable ally for those who put their faith in his leadership
  • A “sleeper reed” that can not give support
  • A leader who has or who will let his people down – like a reed, he will splinter and break
  • A leader of people who will find themselves unable to stand because they trusted in a weak reed

Because of this, God will bring a sword against him. He will no longer be a source of confidence for his people. He will be a reminder of their sin in turning to him for help. And, then they will know that God is the Sovereign LORD.
