Once I was called to jury duty and during the selection process the judge asked us each questions.
On that particular day, I just happened to be reading the Max Lucado Bible. I had it in my hand as I approached the podium.
The judge said, "What is that you're reading?"
I said as I felt the Holy Spirit well up inside of me, "Oh, I just got this new book. It's a good book." I meant every word of what I said and didn't even realize what I had said until much later.
Then came the question, "Is there any reason you feel you could not give a fair and impartial verdict in this case?"
I said, "I wonder if I will be able to balance mercy with judgment?"
The judge quickly bolted out, "You don't need to worry about that because there is no mercy in this court."
Made me think of the parable of the debtor:
And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
I am so glad that His mercy endures forever.
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
