The Apostle John wrote of Jesus, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). The Lord Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit, remains an everlasting navigator for all who have become citizens of heaven through spiritual rebirth making them sons and daughters of God. Once a believer becomes born-again, the Holy Spirit comes to indwell them and to guide them through the darkness of this world. In the beginning, when the Lord created the heavens and earth, the world was free of darkness of sin. However, Satan, the spirit of this world, brought darkness into this world when he caused mankind’s fall through Adam and Eve’s sin. Satan and his many followers continue to cause darkness to spread upon this earth, but God has offered the world an everlasting light source through Jesus the Christ.

Thus, in spite of mankind’s sinful ways the Father offer’s the light of hope for all who repent and follow the light toward eternal salvation. “In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:4-5). Jesus said, “While I am in the world, I am the light of the world” (John 9:5). Consequently, before departing this world Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to indwell His disciples, those who surrender their lives to serve His kingdom forevermore. “So therefore every one of you who does not give up all that he himself possesses, is not able to be My disciple” (Luke 14:33). Therefore, those who are born-again continue to be a light of hope in this world to illuminate the path of righteousness for those who are perishing in this dark and wicked world.

Nevertheless, many continue to reject the Gospel and instead choose to live in darkness. Yet, this does not deter the Lord from being the shining beacon of hope for the lost souls of this world. “And this is the verdict: The Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness more than light, because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever practices the truth comes into the Light, so that it may be clearly seen that what he has done has been accomplished in God” (John 3:19-21). Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind may see and those who see may become blind.” Some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard this, and they asked Him, “Are we blind too?” “If you were blind,” Jesus replied, “you would not be guilty of sin. But since you claim you can see, your guilt remains” (John 9:39-41).

Therefore, true Disciples of Christ are here to continue Jesus' ministry while on this world preaching the good news of the kingdom of heaven offering eternal salvation to all who will come. Jesus said, “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in Me should remain in darkness” (John 12:46). “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they set it on a lampstand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16). Are you letting your light shine in this world? If not, it is not too late to repent from a life in this world and become a light for the lost while you serve the kingdom of heaven.
