The purpose of Zion is to be an instrumentality of God’s dominion on the earth.
Here was the prophecy for the early church, 'but ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost comes upon you: and he shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth'. (Acts 1:8)
And in Acts 8 we see the fulfillment of this prophecy 'Then Phillip went down to the city of SAMARIA and preached Christ unto them. And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Phillip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did...and there was great joy in the city'(Acts 8:5-7).
How many Phillips are we producing in the church today? Phillips is among those whom may be referred to as laymen but is no ordinary man. These men might have been chosen to serve tables but they are men with strange anointing capable enough to take over a city. In Acts 6:5 where they were appointed the bible called these band of men as men full of faith and of the anointing!
These are two spiritual forces lacking in the present day church. We produce today men full of fear and of senses. Men full of ideas and strategies. Nothing bad in that, but this men must be equally full of faith and of power!
Many believers talked of the anointing only a few carry it bodily! The anointing has a price! The spiritual laziness in the body is producing many dry believers. Indeed the greatest tragedy of the hour is the spiritual lethargy of the church!
But in these last days, God will raise through the church, laymen who are no ordinary men. Laymen with strange anointing taking over our city for Jesus. For in those days, 'men shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a believer and say we will go with you because we can see God is with you, you carry the anointing!'.
Spirit-filled praying churches and word believing and practicing churches are what produce powerful believers, believers in the order of Phillip who turns the city upside down. It’s time for the church to refocus, realign and reconnect with the purpose of God! For the purpose of God for the church is to be an ark bearer of his power to the world. This was what David foresaw in that prophetic Psalm in 110:1-3.
‘The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. 2 The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. 3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.’
The purpose of Zion is to be an instrumentality of God’s dominion on the earth. God will rule in the midst of her enemy by sending forth the rod of his strength out from the church. The church original design, therefore, is to be a purveyor and a conveyor of God’s power to the world. And through the exercise of this power, she is to bear God’s rule and kingdom to the earth.
