I came around a bend at the bottom of Sheephole Road yesterday, coming home from work.... I do that every day, it's only a few miles from my house. Standing in the middle of the road, was a ram, in his prime, who had escaped from the fence just a few feet to his left. He was wide-eyed with freedom and surprise, as he also saw me in my jeep. I realized that utter and complete sinking in my chest when I thought he might meet harm from an oncoming truck which took that downhill bend too fast. I HAD TO get him home and back inside the safety of the fences that protected him.
I went a few feet down the closed road to turn around, thinking frantically of WHAT I might have in the jeep to throw around his neck to get him home. The gates to the farm were locked tight, so I would have a heck of a time getting anyone's attention once I lassooed him. No matter, I headed back up the mountain road to find him. He was gone ! Not visible in any of the surrounding woods. He would have stood out among the fall leaves that covered the ground. Not down in the creekbed. Nowhere that I could see. How did he trot off that fast, I wondered... ? I hoped..... He MUST have known a way back into the farm that I didn't see. Because he was gone with the same suddeness that he had appeared.

I turned around again and, reluctantly, drove home. He was so stunning.
All boy and so beautiful ! His brazen virile image was burned into my mind. The shepherd's prize ram in harm's way. The lost sheep. I felt YOUR HEART today, Jesus.... and I felt Your Father's heart. Thank you for that image that will remain in me. Greatest potential in harm's way. You are VERY GOOD AT ME !

"Look at it this way. If someone has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders off, doesn't he leave the ninety-nine and go after the one? And if he finds it, doesn't he make far more over it than over the ninety-nine who stay put? Your Father in heaven feels the same way. He doesn't want to lose even one of these simple believers.
I can't believe Your Father let You die for me ! Please come down soon and stay.
