Jesus Did Not Come To Bring Peace To This World

Since the beginning of time the Father intended for all of His creation to exist in peace and harmony here in this world. However, the spirit of this world relentlessly works day and night to disrupt or counterfeit the peace intended by God. The adversary, Satan and all of his followers, cunningly attack mankind in many ways constantly seeking out our weaknesses to exploit his plan. He started with Eve in the garden and continues to cause havoc to this day. Many times in our lives, even if we are aware of the adversary’s assaults, we tend lose sight of this evil. Worse yet, if the adversary has their way we will all be duped into believing their lies. One of these lies is that we can find peace here on earth outside of Christ Himself. Maybe we can find peace in family, friends, pets, hobbies, and the list goes on. These relationships are important and maybe essential for those outside of Christ. However, for those who are true followers of Jesus we must learn that the one and only true source of peace for us while here on this world only comes from Jesus. These other things may be used by Him to help to bring us peace, but we must go to Him and let Him use what He will to bring us peace.

Jesus said, “Do not assume that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn ‘A man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. A man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ Anyone who loves his father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me; and anyone who does not take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” (Matthew 10:34-39). This is a hard teaching for those caught between this world and heaven, it is impossible for the unbelievers, those who reject the gospel. We must learn not to be caught between this world and our surrendered lives to serve heaven. This takes sacrifice, but it is required of us if we are true followers of Christ. This is what we must aspire to spiritually grow to as we keep our eyes on heaven and not on this world.

Thus, we must seek to walk away from the things that take our eyes off of the Lord. We have all sought to find our place in this world to have a measure of acceptance of others. We join clubs, societies, clicks, etc. to help us identify who we are and establish the acceptance of others that we naturally require to feed our ego. That is the way of this world, but is not the way of heaven. Jesus said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their superiors exercise authority over them. It shall not be this way among you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:25-28). Therefore, the true follower of Christ must shed the ways of this world and live a life focused on Christ for His good pleasure. Moreover, this is not to be part of our lives, but instead it is our lives, all day and every day, until the Lord comes for us.

Hence, I encourage each one of you to seek to walk as Jesus walked. “See to it, brothers, that none of you has a wicked heart of unbelief that turns away from the living God. But exhort one another daily, as long as it is called today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly to the end the assurance we had at first. As it has been said: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion.” (Hebrews 3:12-15). We must love our Brothers and Sisters in Christ, our fellow citizens of heaven, and learn to find the peace and harmony with one another that only can come from Christ. Love your family, friends, pets, hobbies, etc. Yet, do not put them in front of the Lord or our heavenly family, because it is here alone we will find peace in this wicked world. “While Jesus was still speaking to the crowds, His mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to Him. Someone told Him, “Look, Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to You.” But Jesus replied, “Who is My mother, and who are My brothers?” Pointing to His disciples, He said, “Here are My mother and My brothers. For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.” (Matthew 12:46-50).
