It's The Little Things That Make The Biggest Difference

Sept 10th was suicide prevention day. I was reading the paper yesterday and in it was a letter from a man to a complete stranger thanking him for saying "Good morning" and giving him a smile. Nothing remarkable you might think but he then went on to say it was this gesture of kindness that stopped him from going on to kill himself and also spared his wife and children the heartache and pain of his loss. The kindness of a stranger saved me.

I'm grateful for every day I wake up now, knowing I might not have been here if it had not been for that kindness, for the time with my wife, family and friends that so easily could have not happened. To walk through the woods and listen to the trees, smell the flowers and feel the sun/rain/wind on my face and be grateful for those moments I could have lost but for the kindness of a stranger.

So if you see a colleague or maybe your boss looking down, doesn't hurt to give them a smile, ask if they are okay, or offer to buy them a coffee....you might be surprised where it leads. If you are the boss and your staff look down or stressed, try taking a moment, offering them a coffee or maybe taking them out for one even just asking if they are okay. After all it's the little things....
