"It Is A Truth Universally Known..."

I watched Pride & Prejudice today, the A&E horrendously-long one with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. :)
Actually, I gathered up all our Jane Austen DVDs and have them on my desk now, ready to watch. I'm debating what to watch tomorrow--Mansfield Park, Emma, Sense & Sensibility, or the Keira Knightley P&P. In a way, I kind of want to watch the latter, and compare the two versions, since while I've seen both of them more than once (heh, more than twice, thrice, and possibly even more), I've never watched them in close conjunction with one another. I might make a list (because I'm weird and have too much time on my hands) of the actors I prefer from each movie over the other. Much as I like Colin Firth, I might have to go with the other guy--Matthew MacFayden--as my favorite Darcy. I don't know, though. They both do the broody thing well, just in different ways. I kind of prefer Jennifer Ehle over Keira Knightley as Lizzy, too, simply because J.E. just looks more Regency-like that K.K., you know? Though I absolutely love some of the looks K.K. makes, especially when she sees Pemberley for the first time and realizes it could have been hers if she hadn't turned Darcy down. ^_^ So funny.

I have a confession to make, regarding Pride & Prejudice: I've never read the book.
I know, I know, what kind of bookworm am I to have never read such a classic? (Though, honestly, I haven't read very many classics. A few Louisa May Alcott books (re: eight--or ten, depending on whether you count the little book of three short stories as one or three books), Huckleberry Finn, and a few Shakespeare plays, and that's about it. So it's not like I've slighted only Jane Austen. *grins*)
Well, anyway, I make such an admittance because I started reading it tonight, after I finished the movie. Granted, I only read the first three chapters (which are quite short) before putting it down and getting back on the computer, but that's farther than I've gotten at my previous attempts at reading it. And if I stay in the Jane Austen kick I'm in, I have confidence I'll at least read more of it. ;)
I don't like to give myself too big of goals, you know. The disappointment is smaller that way when I don't reach them. *strives to look serious but fails and laughs at herself instead*

Anyway. In other news.
Two quotes I thought were particularly apt for me today:

"Money is the most envied, but the least enjoyed. Health is the most enjoyed, but the least envied." - Charles Caleb Colton

"True friendship is like sound health; the value of it is seldom known until it is lost." - Charles Caleb Colton

Not that I'm in horrendously awful health, by any means--trust me, I've felt much, much worse on many other occasions. But colds are annoying, even in their beginnings, and this one is no less annoying than any other.
But on the plus side, my throat isn't sore anymore--at least not in the traditional sore throat way. By that I mean, my throat still kind of hurts, but from dryness/coughing (or the sensation of semi-needing to cough). If that makes sense.
On the minus side, I'm more congested today, and my voice is definitely not normal...though I can still sing. :) (Sort of.) The power of the human larynx. My old choir director once talked about that, how you sing with a different part of your voice box than you talk, so when you're all hoarse from talking or yelling or whatever too much, you generally can still sing.
