It All Began At Calvary

He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil’(1 John 3:8)

This is the major reason why he came: to free us from sin, sickness, disease, poverty, and death! His work was to restore us back to our original mandate of dominion that was lost in Adam. His work was to restore us back to life! A life that cannot be ruled by death!

Romans 5:14-17 sheds light on this that up until the coming of Christ, death reigned over all!

"For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ"

But as soon as Christ stepped into the sin, death gave way to life! Death lost its power because Jesus has gotten the victory! This revelation made Paul shout in 1 Corinthians 15:55, 'O death where is thy sting, oh grave where is thy victory. But thanks be to God, which gaveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ's'

The sting of death was lost on the cross!

The power of the grave was overcome at the resurrection!

The resurrection work and its victory for us all began at the Calvary! He first needed to die before he could rise! And on the cross of Calvary God's love was expressed for mankind as he 'gave up his only begotten son' to die for us. Now note this, very important, Calvary expresses the love of God while the resurrection expresses the power of God! Through the demonstration of his love and the workings of his mighty power at the resurrection, God gave humanity a new lease of life! Hallelujah!

It all however started at the cross! On that cross, the powerlessness of death was revealed! Or let me put it shockingly to you; Jesus was not killed on the cross! Death could not kill Jesus because death hath no power over him! Now that was not the only thing that happened, also, death did not have power in his presence! That's why throughout his earthly ministry the dead rises in the presence of the master. And that was why on the cross; the two thieves could not die until Jesus has yielded up the Ghost! Only then could death take them!

If you remember what Jesus said earlier then you will understand why this is so. He said before that ‘he would destroy this temple and raise it again in three days' by which he refers to his death and resurrection. But he made it clearer in John 10:11,14,17-18 how that it will be of his own power that he will lay down his own life! 'No man taketh it from me' he reiterated!

"Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father"

This is why on the cross, death could not take him! Death was powerless in his presence until the Son of man 'cried with a loud voice' spake unto the father and said 'father unto thee I commend my spirit' and after doing that the word said ‘he gave up the ghost!’ Death didn't take it from him; he gave it up of his own accord! Hallelujah!(See Matt.27:50, Mark 15:37, Luke 23:46, John 19:30)
