Is Salvation Really A Free Gift?

Is Salvation Really A Free Gift?

If it is, am I then obligated to serve God for accepting this gift?
So, to answer the first question, yes, salvation is absolutely a free gift. The Bible makes this very clear in Ephesian 2:8-9,

"that it’s by grace are you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

So, in other words, salvation has nothing to do with how many good deeds we perform; it has nothing to do with our to holiness; it has nothing to do with our church attendance; the only requirement you will ever have to meet in order to receive salvation is to believe in it (put our faith in it) and then receive it (Romans 10:9-10). We did nothing to earn it, and there will never be anything we do to deserve it.
And really, that’s is the only proof I need because of how clear Ephesians 2:8-9 makes it.

Now, to answer the second question which is,

"Once I become saved, am I then obligated to serve God?"
(this is what the person was really getting at)

The answer is: No. Just because you accept salvation it doesn’t mean you are now indebted to God. There is no fine print when it comes to receiving salvation, and God will never force you to do anything you don’t want to do – which includes serving him.

Now, I can see where the confusion comes from because it does tell us in Ephesians 2:10, "for we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Or as it says in the KJV of the bible Bible, “God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Which does make it sound like God is telling us, "Now that you are saved, I prepared a list of things you must now do for me." But that isn't the case, otherwise salvation would no longer be a free gift, but instead a debt we must pay off.

Yes, God has a perfect plan, and a perfect will for every single one of us; and he has a calling he would love to see us walk in, but it is entirely up to you whether you want to follow it or not. We do have a choice whether we want to obey and live in God’s perfect plan or not. But we don’t have to if we don't want to. And by us choosing not to serve him, he isn’t going to withhold salvation from us either. He doesn’t dangle salvation over our head and tell us, “you’ll either serve me, or I’ll send you to Hell". No, eternal life is an unconditional promise given to us by God, without the expectation of anything in return.

Now I do want to say this, though: If God can win your heart, he will win your service. What I mean by this is that the more you get closer to God; the more you begin to understand how much He truly loves you; and the more you discover how truly amazing of a gift He has provided for all of us, you will end up wanting to serve him in some way. Once you discover that God's love for you is so wonderful, you cannot help but love and serve him back. So, as I said earlier, If he can win your heart, he will win your service, and that's a fact.

So to re-cap, yes, salvation is really a free gift, with the only requirement from you is to believe in it and receive it. And No, you are not then obligated to serve God after you get save because if you were, it would no longer be a gift from God, but instead it would be more like indented servitude. It would be like God saying, "I did this for you, now you have to do this for me." No, it is nothing like that. We serve God because we love him, and because we desire to.

And there you have it. So hopefully this answered any questions you had regarding this matter. But if you do have any further questions, go head and place them in the comment section below and I'll do my best to answer it.

Thanks for checking out this post, and God Bless.
