As it's Christmas ...

During the reign of Oliver Cromwell from 1647 to 1660 the word Christmas was replaced with Christ tide as mas was thought too much like the catholic Mass. singing of carols and eating mince pies or even celebrating it was illegal for a time.

Jingle bells was not written as a Christmas song but for thanksgiving where as white Christmas is considered the most popular Christmas song of all time.

The reindeer were not named prior to the poem ''twas the night before Christmas

A recent scientific study revealed that Santa would have 31 hours to deliver gifts to every child in the world taking in the different time zones. However even if he only delivered to the 800 million children who celebrate Christmas world wide he would still have to deliver several thousand per minute so he would have little time for a mince pie and milk..thank goodness for the elves!

The first Christmas card was produced in 1843 the same year as Dickens' Christmas carol was published.

Christmas crackers (for those countries that use them) were first produced in 1847 and contained poems rather than the jokes we now see.
