Interesting Facts #30

to celebrate the release of a trailer for the new blade runner movie coming next year here are a few interesting facts about the original film

Ridley Scott never read the book on which it is based "Do androids dream of electric sheep?" By Phillip K Dick

The first writer Hampton Francher also wrote the to series' Bonanza, Gunsmoke and The Fugative.

When the director and the producer could not get him to revise the first script they brought in David Peoples who later went on to write "Twelve monkeys"

Having trained as a gymnast Daryl Hannah was capable of doing the flips her character did however on the day of shooting they were done by a male stunt double although there were some done by a female gymnast she became exhausted with having to continually do somersaults in each takes.

Joanna Cassidy (Zhora) used her actual pet snake.

Civilisation creator Syd Mead was the illustrator for the production

Joe Turkel (Tyrell) could not remember his lines so they were posted on boards around the set, off camera for him to read during his scenes...which is why his character always gazes elsewhere when he speaks.

Rutger Hauer(Roy Batty) final speech was written by him just before he shot it as he felt Roy wouldn't just die without saying something. Rutger turned up to dinner before getting the part very bizarrely dressed because as he explained to the director an android with limited memory might not know how to fit in. He was offered the part on the spot.
