Ignorance Is Part Of Faith - A Martyn Lloyd-jones Sermon Commentary

I really enjoyed listening to this sermon by Martyn Lloyd-Jones titled "The Eternal Decrees of God," which covers some of the eternal and immutable decrees of God, which cannot be overturned. Some of these decrees (explicit or implicit) appear to be irreconcilable, such as how free will can exist and yet fit in with the plan of God. He advises that we not try to understand what has not been explained to us in the bible. I agree and feel that there is more than enough in the bible to chew on without trying to figure out those things which have not been explained. Partial ignorance of God appears to apply not just to the sons of men but also the sons of God, for even the angels don't know all things (1 Peter 1:12). I do not believe we will ever figure it all out nor is that the purpose for which we were created (Ecclesiastes 3:11). I believe all matters require some degree of faith and that ignorance is universal to all things (physicists are still searching for that universal theory that harmonizes the macro and micro) and we should embrace this ignorance, seeking to learn what has been provided to us and not going outside of the two covers of the bible.
