Romans 15:13
“ Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Just this evening I was wondering, “What would I write about tonight”? The word that kept coming to mind was “hope”. Initially I paid no attention to it because I wanted to make sure that was really what I wanted to talk about. We all know there are so many subjects to talk about that even all the written books of old cannot contain the thoughts of one particular subject. There are volumes upon volumes of man’s thoughts written all over the pages of the world’s immensely large libraries.
What would make this entry so different from all the others that have been written before? Good question! I have an answer. I, Michael, am a one of kind and there is no other like me. I am the original and there is no other like me. So case in point, what is “hope”? More explicitly what is the “God of Hope”? In all my years of hearing about “hope”, how often do you hear about the “God of Hope”?
“Hope” sounds like it has a creator; in fact it does. “Hope’s” creator is the God of the universe. I wonder what was going on in the mind of God when He decided let me create “hope”? What is “hope”? According to the dictionary it is: 1.) To cherish a desire with anticipation. 2.) To desire with expectation of obtainment. 3.) To expect with confidence. To me, it sounds like God is the creator of desire. Wow, desire! Let us find out what that means: 1.) Conscious impulse toward something that promises enjoyment and satisfaction in its attainment. 2.) To long for or crave. My! My! My! This “God of Hope” has such desire and longing for His creation (me and you), that He has a conscious impulse towards me (you) that promises Him enjoyment and satisfaction in attaining me (you). Do you believe that to be true?
Ladies and gentlemen, let it be known God is in hot pursuit of you and because He knows that if He gets a hold of you He will find enjoyment and satisfaction in attaining you. WOW! At this time I still cannot comprehend that to it fullest magnitude, that God is passionate about me (you). That He would do anything just to be with me, to the point of offering His own Son so that we could be together. This was His hope for all of mankind; that this amazing God would find satisfaction and enjoyment in attaining a relationship with us. I am actually flattered by this gesture, yet this is the heart of God. The “God of Hope” who has such intense desire for me has made His creation with the same desire. WOW!
