Goodness And Mercy

"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever." (Psalms 23:6 NKJV)

David in the above text acknowledges the everlasting covenant God made with him: the sure mercies of David (Isaiah 55:3). He was aware of God's goodness and mercy.
Goodness: The quality or state of being good (Merriam-Webster Dictionary).
Goodness does not necessarily mean palatable.
"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28 NKJV)
It was God's goodness to allow Saul attempt to kill David. It was still God's goodness to permit Absalom pursue the king from the city. It was His goodness to allow Beersheba's first son to die. His goodness towards us does not connote absent of bad occurrences. But all things that God permits to come our way will work together for our good.
Mercy: A blessing that is an act of divine favor or compassion. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). God made David king over Israel, His people, out that of divine favour and compassion. After being born again and growing in the knowledge of Christ, we must also plead for God's mercy, which is part of our redemption through Christ. The mercy of God must not be taken for granted.

ACTION PLAN: Have you been taking the mercy of God for granted. Desist from such attitude. Plead for His mercy with humble heart today.

PRAYER: Have mercy on me, oh Lord. Let me behold your goodness all the days of my life.
