God's Judgement
God Is Judge

25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? —Genesis 18:25 (KJV)

Judgement Comes From God

In the Old Testament God appears frequently in the role of "Judge of all the earth" (Genesis 18:25), or more generally the "God of justice" (Malachi 2:17). Judgement implies not only an unbiased weighting of good and evil, but also vigorous action against evil. It is because of this understanding that the people of God are summoned to exercise judgement in turn (Isaiah 1:17; Zechariah 8:16). It is a strongly personal notion, closely linked to God’s characteristics of mercy, lovingkindness, righteousness and truth.

The New Testament continues to stress judgement as part of God’s nature and essential activity (Romans 1:18; Hebrews 12:23; 1 Peter 1:17; 1 Peter 2:23; Revelation 16:5). His judgements are not confined to the future but are already at work in the present age (John 8:50; Romans 1:18, Romans 1:22, Romans 1:24, Romans 1:26, Romans 1:28; Revelation 18:8). Judgement is associated even now with Christ, who exercises the Father’s judgements.

God Is The Judge Of All The Universe

He judges according to His standard of Law as revealed in the Bible. Judgement can refer either to the process of determining guilt or innocence or to the punishment given out to those who fall under God’s wrath.

Judgement (Major Old Testament Verses)
  • Judgement comes from God (Deuteronomy 32:39; Job 12:23; Amos 3:6; Micah 6:9);

    • abandonment (Hosea 4:17)
    • cursing men’s blessings (Malachi 2:2)
    • pestilence (Deuteronomy 28:21-22; Amos 4:10)
Judgement (Major New Testament Verses)
  • All judgement is in the hands of Jesus Christ (John 5:22)
  • He has this authority because He is the Son of Man (John 5:27)
  • Believers are not to stand in the place of Christ as Judge because we all will stand before Christ’s judgement seat (Romans 14:10)
