God's Faithfulness In My Work

My first job,at 17 years of age, in 1968,was as a Metallurgist Assistant,in the iron foundry, where my father worked. It combined work in the laboratory testing the iron ore and in the furnace area using a long handled ladle to take samples from the furnace to put into wedges, that were then broke to measure the silicon. I suffered bad skin in the heat and dirt of the foundry and my doctor advised to find another place to work. I had a number of jobs ranging from Postie,Milkman,Warehouse Worker,Storekeeper. I took a job as a grocery delivery driver to schools and firms, but I was hopeless at finding the places and we mutually agreed that I would leave, after only a week. I was distraught and crying and phoned my second Pastor and he said,'You are suffering from nervous fatigue, come and see me'. I did and he prayed for me and handed me an envelope with a letter of reference to the manager of the local Tesco store, where he did his shopping. The manager gave me a job and I worked there for four years before joining the new Marks and Spencer store in the town. It was while I was there that I was invited to work part-time at the church as Caretaker. In the afternoons I would assist the Pastor as he sought to improve the facilities of the church.,'It's all part of the process',he told me. Little did I know that he was mentoring me and training me for the ministry.
