Give A Lift... Get A Lift

Consider how Jesus gave us examples of things we could do if we felt compelled to go out and do some good today. A couple of examples were feed and clothe the poor, or visit the infirmed or incarcerated. Was He just talking about seeing to their physical needs? Or was He talking about more importantly, tending to each others spiritual needs? How?

The oppressed flocked to Jesus in His day. Did they see their oppressors thrown off or did they see the promise of a future? They saw through Jesus' teachings that they, and not the traditional ways of man, were on the right path to the Kingdom. That they were backwards in this world but right way round in the Kingdom. They understood how backwards this world of man is.

The ways of the world created by mankind by default oppress those who are not the oppressors. Poverty, emotions, sickness, etc. all serve to drag us down, to diminish hope or to distract us from the Kingdom. There is a leading nation today by example that is overwhelmed with oppression while calling itself free. Freedoms and rights are disappearing, debt is mounting as credit being offered as a gift is lapped up, medical bills overwhelm, wages are being driven down. Talk about being drawn back into the world. But are not these burdens a blessing in disguise to those not of this world?

Ignore the crusades promoted by politicians to distract people from their real condition while promoting self over selflessness. It seems to me that if we could lift that spiritual burden of others united in oppression, even for a few moments by doing those simple deeds suggested by Jesus, we could give people the break needed to revive their spiritual energies and get themselves back on track towards the Kingdom. They only want to feel they are not alone.

We cannot change or save anyone but ourselves, but we can help carry a load even for a moment that might otherwise cause someone else to fall totally back into the ways of mankind. Sometimes all it takes is a moment to change a lifetime.

Mark 4:18 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, 19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
