'We're all in this together if we're in it at all' ~ Johnny Cash
For a long time in my life I have always rejected friendship. Sure, there have been people who I called friends but I have never trusted someone to the point where we have been close enough hat I allowed them to be supportive as a friend and allow them to help me during the tough times. Some have tried, but I have never let them get that close - I had to be independent.
But looking at it, friends are the best things you can have in life. Someone to talk to, someone who will support you and be there for you no matter what you do or what happens. The best friend we can ever have is God. He is the one who will never leave us or let us down, but it is important to have other friends to support you as well. I forgot about that until recently when one of my now best friends refused to let me push her away, no matter how hard I tried.
Even God reminded us of this in Ecclesiastes 4:18:
If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no-one to help him up!
It is not easy to open up to someone and trust them with your struggles but friendship goes two ways. I was always open to listen to my friends but needed to learn to trust them in return and let them help me get up in troubled times. I still struggle with this, but it is something I am going to try and work on in the future. We are not alone in the world. God has placed wonderful people around us who can support us and help to pick us up when we fall.
