For We Walk By Faith, Not By Sight (2 Corinthians 5:7)

The true followers of Christ (citizens of the kingdom of heaven) are called to walk by faith and not by sight here on earth. This means we are to walk in a way that is in direct conflict to how we once walked when spiritually dead in our former lives as the unsaved do. Furthermore, we who are the elect must realize that we only remain here in this world for God’s purpose, not our own. Moreover, Jesus prayed to the Heavenly father, “I am not asking that You take them (His disciples) out of the world, but that You keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.” (John 17:15-16). Therefore, we are told, “Not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not from the Father but from the world. The world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God remains forever.” (1 John 2:15-17).

Thus, we must depart from the ways of this world, which includes worldly thinking. We are new creations and children in a kingdom that we will not understand until the day we depart this world and reach our new home in heaven. This kingdom of heaven was personified in the life of Christ and if we simply seek to walk as Jesus walked we will find ourselves going in the right direction. Therefore, the true disciple must put away old thinking (as mere humans) and embrace a life based on faith fully trusting in Christ for our understanding of God’s will. Accordingly, it is important for the true Christian to know what it means to walk by faith. “Now faith is the assurance of what we hope for and the certainty of what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1). “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who approaches Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). Consequently, an understanding of God’s will as it applies to our lives only come through our faith and is not based on human understanding. Regrettably, countless so-called Christians make the error of trying to figure out the mysteries of God instead of simply serving the kingdom by faith as Jesus did.

Thus, “Since you have been raised with Christ, strive for the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.” (Colossians 3:1-4). Even though this is our calling as true Christians there are few today who will truly embrace a life based on faith. Far too many reject living by faith and replace it with manmade traditions and doctrines. This is just as the Jews before them did concerning the kingdom of heaven. Look no further than those claiming to be Evangelicals, Protestants, Catholics, Pentecostals, etc. to find those who follow religious practices to replace a life of faith. These people actually believe that if they are part of these Christian Religion groups they have a place reserved for them in heaven; however, this is simply not true. Unless they are TRULY spiritually reborn and live a life guided by faith and not manmade traditions and doctrines they will remain lost forever.

Paul wrote, “Do not lie to one another, since you have taken off the old self with its practices, and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, or free, but Christ is all and is in all. Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with hearts of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive any complaint you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which is the bond of perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, for to this you were called as members of one body.” (Colossians 3:9-15).

Hence, walking by faith is simply dismissing our own free will to do the will of our Heavenly Father. This is a daily calling we must live out as long as we remain in this world. Moreover, we must come to the understanding that we can never fully comprehend the mysteries of heaven and must instead choose to walk in faith trusting in God for what it is that He wishes for us to know and do. “Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, for the Lord and not for men, because you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as your reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Whoever does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism.” (Colossians 3:23-25). Jesus said it best, “I can do nothing by Myself; I judge only as I hear. And My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” (John 5:30).
