Feast Of Tabernacles - Sukkot

Feast Of Tabernacles - Sukkot for Hebrew Year 5784 begins at sundown on Friday, 29 September 2023 and ends at nightfall on Friday, 6 October 2023.

The Feast of Tabernacles takes place 5 days after the Day of Atonement, on the 15th day of the Hebrew month Tishri/Ethanim

Tabernacles/Sukkot is 1 of 3 "pilgrimage festivals" (Lev 23). Every native-born male Jew (20 yrs & up) had to travel to Jerusalem for this 8 day festival. This was the time when they brought their tithes & offerings to the Temple (Deut 16:16).

This festival goes by a number of other names:

Feast of Tabernacles, Feast of Booths, Sukkot (Hebrew for booths), Feast of Ingathering, Feast of the Nations, Autumn of Life, The Season of Our Joy!

Feast of Tabernacles/Sukkot celebrates the gathering of the harvest (late Sept to mid Oct) of summer fruits of trees, like olives, pomegranates, figs, dates, citrons etc. Solomon’s Temple was dedicated to the Lord (1 Kings 8:2). Ezra proclaims the Word of God (Neh 8). The time a daily water-drawing ceremony - Pool of Siloam/Shiloah (Isa 8:6, Jn 9:7).

For 7 days during the Tabernacles Feast. In the morning a priest would take a golden vessel to the Pool. Fill it with water & bring it back to the altar. Pour the water on the west side of the altar & another priest poured a drink offering of wine on the east side of the altar. A foreshadow of Christ pouring out His Holy Spirit (Isa 12:3, Joe 2:28-29, Jn 7:37-39) The people would shout Hallel praises (Ps 113-118). With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. (Isa 12:3)

No water was poured on day 8. This was the day Jesus stood & said: If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me & drink! (Jn 7:37-38).

During this 8-day festival the Israelites would DWELL in booths or TABERNACLES, made from the branches of trees (Lev 23:40–42). Jn 1:14 He became flesh & DWELT = (TABERNACLED) among us!

A harvest time of joy & celebration of God’s continued provisions & protection during the 40 years in the Sinai wilderness. One year for every day they disobeyed God's order to take the promise land. Also, a reminder to all generations, of the Lords delivering from Egyptian slavery & a foreshadow of the coming Messiah's works.

During the 40 yr wilderness experience, the Presence of God dwelt in their midst. He covered them daily with His cloud & at night warmed them with His fiery presence & all needs were taken care of. Neither their shoes nor their clothes wore out (Deut 29:5)

The Feast of Tabernacles also looks forward to the 1000-year Messianic Kingdom when Jesus will be dwelling in & ruling from Jerusalem.

Zec. 14:
16 It shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem. Shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts. To keep the Feast of tabernacles.

(MY NOTE: It will come to pass = millennium kingdom & all nations will be required to come to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts)

17 It shall be, that who will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain”

Jn 7:
37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
(MY NOTE: The Lord is the Living Water - Jer 17:13, Ps 36:7-9)

39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
(MY NOTE: Jesus/Holy Spirit baptism is the true Living Water (Jn 4:10, 6:35, 7:37-39)

(MY NOTE: The vs 37 words: "In the last day". Means that this event occurred on the last day (day 8) of the Feast of Tabernacles. Day 8 also means: A New Beginning. Jesus began His earthly ministry during day 8 of Feast of tabernacles (vs 37). Christ rose/was glorified on the 8th day & brought in new a spiritual beginning. On the last Feast Day 8, at the end of Christ's 1000 yr millennium kingdom reign. Our Great God & Savior, who rested on day 7 of His creation. On day 8 will once again begin to create anew.

Additional info:
The Wilderness Tabernacle was the forerunner of the 1st & 2nd Temples in Jerusalem. Its design, proportions & functions were a miniature portable version of the future Temple built by Solomon in 964 B.C.

The children of Israel brought the Wilderness Tabernacle with them into Canaan, it was erected for the last time in Shiloh. It remained & became a fixed Sanctuary where the people worshipped the Lord their God until Solomon's Temple was built (Jos 18.1)

Shiloh was a city in the mountain territory of Ephraim aprox 20 miles north of Jerusalem. The Tabernacle remained there for 369 years until Solomon's Temple was built. Shiloh means tranquility & rest. Shiloh is also a term used to describe Messiah (Gen 49:10, 1 Sam 1:1-3)

The Tabernacle was set up, ordained & established 1 year after the Exodus from Egypt, on the 1st day of the 1st month/Nisan (March or April) 13 days before the 2nd Passover.

The Glory of The LORD appeared in the form of a Cloud. The Lords Shekinah Glory Presence covered the Tent of the Congregation inside & outside. And Moses was unable to enter into the Tent as a result (Ex 40.1-2, 33-35).

The Lords Presents now dwells/tabernacles inside every NT believer. Amen
