Little pebbles come from rocks. Jesus gave Shimon (Simon) his nickname (Little Pebble/Peter) because Peter had correctly spoken in his identity of the Messiah, and Jesus said that that knowledge had come from God and not the opinions of man.
Hence the rock that the church would be built upon, would be knowledge coming from God, not the opinions of man.
Tens of thousands of growing denominations (especially in the last 60 years) have shown a goodly proportion of the church has once again put the will of man before the will of God, not by repeating what God has already spoken, but by adding to it as they see fit.
How then can these teach that of God which goes against what they do?
