Election not free-will choice!

I do not understand why people insist upon free-will choice / human decision as the basis of salvation. John 1:13 is clear..."Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." Romans 9:16 is also clear..."So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy."

The Terms will and willeth refer to "what one wishes or has determined shall be done," and "will, choice, inclination, desire, pleasure." (Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words). So John says it is not of human choice or desire. And Paul says, it is not according to human choice or desire! The idea that it is runs utterly contrary to plain Bible teaching.

So how does salvation come about. The Bible is plain again..."No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me" (John 6:44-45). And "For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;" And "For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion" (Romans 9:11, Romans 9:15).

Salvation is God's sovereign work!!! It is referred to as 'election' (which literally means divine selection) in no less than 26 passages of Scripture. It is not, not, not a matter of human works (e.g. baptism) or human will, free or otherwise!!!
