Do Not Worry!

Jesus said, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.” Matthew 6:25 He was speaking to those who are His disciples, He truly does not want us to worry about the things we cannot control and yet need here in this world. Remember when the disciples were overwhelmed by worry while on the sea in the midst of the storm. Jesus asked them, “Where is your faith?” Our Lord put it this way, “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” Matthew 6:27 The people of this world have good reason to worry, and worry they do! “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles strive after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:31-34

I encourage you to take all of the worries of this world that come upon you and lay them at the feet of Jesus trusting by faith that He will take care of your troubles. “The natural man does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.” 1 Corinthians 2:14 However, if you are in Christ, you are not the natural man, but instead you have the Holy Spirit to give you peace and discernment that comes from above. When Jesus was tempted by Satan in the desert, in the same we are, He said, “Away from Me, Satan! “For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’” Matthew 4:10 Again, in Matthew 16:22 Peter took our Lord to the side and rebuked Him for saying he would suffer and die in Jerusalem because Peter was thinking in human terms. “But Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me. For you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.” Matthew 16:23

Therefore, “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:2 We need to avoid thinking like the world thinks and have confidence in our faith that the Lord is in control if we are placing our full trust in Him. “Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. The mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind of the flesh is hostile to God: It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are controlled not by the flesh, but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.” Romans 8:5-11
