TODAY’S TEXT: "And when the day of Pentecost fully came, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Here in Acts 2:4 the first place was recorded in scriptures where the believers spoke in tongues and the bible tells us that they all spoke with tongues as the Holy Spirit gave them ‘utterance’. Now as I study this scripture I look closely at the word UTTERANCE again and I discovered the original meaning of these words to be insightful. From the original words translated from it means, “NOT A WORD OF EVERYDAY SPEECH BUT ONE ‘BELONGING TO DIGNIFIED AND ELEVATED DISCOURSE’”. Hallelujah!
When we pray in tongues we are having an elevated discussion with the heavenly. This is a spiritual discussion elevated above every natural realm, above every satanic realm of understanding and operation. This must be what Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 14: 1- 3.
“1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. 2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. 3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. 4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
When Christ died for us one of the great works that he did for us is to translate us from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of his dear Son where we are seated in the heavenly places, putting us in a position where we can talk directly with the father.
Ephesians 1:19-22 tells us, ‘And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23 Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all’
This is what happens by reason of Christ redemptive work: he is seated far above all powers both in heaven and on earth! And then when we become born again we are translated to seat with Christ in that same exalted, dignified and elevated place! Ephesians 2:6 tells us, ‘4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus’
In this elevated position, our language of effective communication is the elevated and dignified language we have been given and that is praying in the Holy Spirit! Spiritual heavenly communication is done with our spirit and not with our mind! Speaking in tongues is the language of heavenly royalties to which you and I belong! Praying in the Spirit is the default language of communication in heavenly places
