Colossians 1:9

How many times have I heard "I wish I knew what God's will was for me (or for my life)." Others have said "No one can know what God wants you to do." In Colossians 1:9 Paul reveals part of what he and Timothy would pray for the Christians in the city of Colossae...
"that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his (God's) will..." This statement/prayer would not have made it into becoming written Scripture if it had not been the intent of the Holy Spirit.
God wants us to know his will. 1 Thessalonians 4:3 begins "For this is the will of God, even your..." God does have a will for us, and wants us to know what it is. We find his general will as we read the Scriptures. General in the sense that this is his will for all his children; things like praying, reading the scripture, representing him well, etc. It is when we know Him through His Word so well, that we become sensitive to the guiding of the Holy Spirit in things that are more specific to us; which church should I attend, who should I marry, what job should I pursue. Like Paul, may we pray for other believers "that they might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that they might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing (and on through Colossians 1:10-12.).
