The word "submit" has become utterly distorted and twisted until it is no longer seen in the light as God intended. Society and many in the church world have come to see submission; especially that of a wife toward her husband, as degrading, abusive, unequal and demeaning. Many discard the idea as a sub-Christian cultural leftover that does not apply to the modern Christian. Spirits of rebellion have deceived Godly men and women for decades concerning this particular issue; the enemy twisted God's Word and deceived many, and ultimately has destroyed many many marriages; bringing divorce rates within the Christian community to match that of non-believers. Satan seeks to destroy the ultimate and mysterious portrait of God's relationship with the church, which is his beautiful and radiant Bride.
Sadly, many men have believed that the Scripture concerning submission within marriage is a license to control their wives. The anger and bitterness of many women during feminism and equal rights movements has left many wives uncertain that they are loved at all. Women in general have become constantly on guard and on the ready to defend their rolls as equals. All of this is the result Satan's arrows, evil whispers to less-educated Christians usually with wounded hearts, and deceit on a massive scale.
I have been convinced for years that if Christian marriages were to actually begin representing the great Mystery in its true glory and with understanding of the Scriptures on this subject, divorce rates within the church might possibly plummet. Perhaps I am wrong, but it would be awesome to see!
When a husband represents Christ to his wife, then her submission becomes one of the most powerful forces not only against the enemy, but toward a viable increase in the kingdom of God. I hope you received what I you just read and will quickly come to know something new! Submission done the way God intended from the start IS ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL WEAPONS against the enemy and for the kingdom of God! I am prayerfully and carefully treading here, because I want so much to express what I honestly believe in my deepest heart - that the veil which has distorted insight and understanding, just might be lifted from the spiritual eyes of so many precious, amazing, and valuable Christians just like you. Lord Jesus, Yeshua my Love, give me the words.
Submission in no way implies that a wife is anything less than her husband, they are one; equal in the eyes of the Lord, and represent how Jesus submitted to the Father but both were equally God.
"Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you." Hebrews 13:17
Husbands must give an account for the provision, protection, and well-being (physically and emotionally) of their wives.
“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.” - Ephesians 5:25, KJV
“With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love.” - Ephesians 4:2, KJV
“Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” - Matthew 19:6, KJV
Ephesians 5:23 talks about the husband being the head of the wife just as Christ is head of the church. Most Christians seem to not fully understand the beauty and perfection of marriage the way God intends it to be. The roles of both husband and wife are incredibly powerful. The husband here is being compared to the Lord Jesus Christ! He represents Christ to the wife! He is therefore expected to - commanded to - be like the Lord as servant, provider, protector, great love of a lifetime, healer, adviser and so much more for his wife. With all of this responsibility comes a title. He is lord of the the marriage.
However, just as important in this union is the role of the wife. Her true role has been disguised by lies of the enemy and under-estimated in its strength and power. The wife in Ephesians 5 is compared to the church. She represents the radiant Bride; the glorious result of the God's Light and Power bursting forth on the earth as a result of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. She represents the light on a hill; the salt of the earth; "the fullness of him" (Eph 1:23); "workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration" (1 Cor 12). "Each member of the body of Christ is also called to serve the church through his or her natural gifts and abilities. This service is offered out of devotion to Christ for the sacrifice He made on the cross,". The wife is to be gloriously lit from within. Her place in marriage is powerful in that she is worth dying for. She is full of power over the enemy. She is royalty, and she is so valued that she is cared for like no other! This is the picture of marriage God intended - the great Mystery revealed in us.
