The coming and crucifixion of Jesus Christ holds a lot of significance for the world. When I think about His final words before yielding the ghost I feel on top of the world. How exciting? Let's look at this scripture.
John 19:30 "When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, IT IS FINISHED : and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost."
So what was finished? Watch it, this revelation will blow you up!
1. He finished with your sins:
When Jesus said IT IS FINISHED the first thing that finished was the sins of the world. When the first man (Adam) sinned, man lost his relationship with God.
However, for this relationship to be restored there was need for a sacrifice of blood. Before the coming of Christ this sacrifice of blood was called a 'sin offering.' (Exodus 29:36). So what does the scripture say? Jesus was made to become that sacrifice for the cleansing of the sins of the world.
Matthew 26:28 "For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins."
This means that no matter how huge our sins may be, the blood of Jesus has the capacity to wipe them away because he has finished with our sins many years ago. He was labelled as a sinner for our own sake.
2 Corinthians 5:21 "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."
2. He finished with poverty:
it is unfortunate that some Christians have been made to believe that true Christianity means living in poverty since money belongs to the people of the world. This is a very wrong idea. What does the scripture say?
3 John 1:2 "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper (financially) and be in health, even as thy soul (your spiritual life) prospereth."
So you see, when Jesus said it is finished he meant that he had finished with whatever is blocking your financial and spiritual prosperity. I thought I will hear an Amen to that! Here is your confirmation.
2 Corinthians 8:9 "For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich."
The word 'rich' in the above scripture encompasses both spiritual, physical and moral wealth.
3. He finished with all sickness:
Yes as a true believer in the salvation of our Lord Jesus Christ it is your right to live on earth without any form of disease or sickness. Jesus said he came to this world so that you and I can have life and have it in ABUNDANCE (John 10:10).
But you can never have life in abundance with that disease or sickness in you. So was Jesus lying? God forbid! That is why for everyone reading this who is having one form of sickness or the other, I curse that sickness and command it to leave your body right now in the name of Jesus Christ. Look, Jesus was beaten with stripes just to secure our healing.
Isaiah 53:5 "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."
That means whatever form of sickness Jesus finished with that is still hanging around you is illegal.
4. He finished with spiritual death:
When Jesus gave up the ghost on the cross we understand from scriptures that graves began to open (Matthew 27:52). So what does that mean? It means that there shall be no more death (Revelation 21:4). But how?
You see, in Genesis 1:27 God created man in His own image. Since God is a spirit (John 4:24), anything in the image of God must be a spirit. That means God created the spirit of man on that day and then in Genesis 2:7 God FORMED man from the dust (that's the flesh).
So in Genesis 2:17 we understand that God commanded Adam not to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, saying that the day he eats from that tree he (Adam) will SURELY die.
But in Genesis 3:6 Adam and his wife ate the fruit but they did not "die. " Was God telling lies? No, when they ate the fruit they actually died but SPIRITUALLY, and this was why they couldn't face God because the image of God in them (the spirit) was dead.
What am I saying? When Jesus came he restored our relationship with God by bringing up our dead spirit from the grave that we (our spirit) may live forever. Hallelujah!
Friends, the spirit controls the natural world.
5. He finished with all our quarrels with God:
As I have said above, Jesus died so as to restore our relationship with God. Let see this scripture.
Matthew 27:51 "And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;"
So why was the veil rent? The veil symbolize a barrier standing between we and God, that barrier was formed when Adam sinned but since Jesus was being used as a sacrifice for our sins the veil has to go for a new door of relationship to be opened. .
Glory to Jesus we can now communicate directly with God, not needing the help of any priest as it was in the days of Moses. The scripture says
Hebrews 7:27 "Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself."
In conclusion, you can not enjoy all the benefits of the word "it is finished" if you don't have a genuine relationship with Jesus. I invite you to give your life to Jesus today (if you haven't) and heaven will be glad to welcome you.
