I was preaching in London's Hyde Park, it was a day when the Sisters of mercy were in town for an event so the place was packed with nuns in their distinctive white habits.
A little chinese girl saw my bible and supposed I was part of that crowd, she came running over and blurted out "oh I wish...
I will daughter you
follow you
wherever you may go
though ties may now be broken
love will not have it so
I will daughter you
*
You won't be alone
I'll come too
however hard the road
together we will walk it
we'll share the heavy load
I will daughter you
*
Never take my freedom from me
by...
Anne Frank's chestnut tree.
[After reading Anne's entry for February 23 1944 I wrote this poem]
*
This my chosen spot
I may lay me down
gaze can only upward be
filled anew with hope
which grew upon my chestnut tree
tomorrow I am free
*
No clouds in my sky
nor shadow troubling me
gracefully glide...
I was working in the 70s, working hard, long hours [sometimes 15 hrs] in London as an assistant manager in one of Britain's leading supermarkets. I would come home totally bushed.
One sunny afternoon I espyed a magazine seemingly carelessly thrown away on the pavement, it was a gospel magazine...
Moonlight shadow, moonlight shadow
I don't want to be mantled in you
cold and unfriendly as you are
chilled with a midnight dew
I would rather have a sunbeam
warm upon my shoulder
little sis will hide her face
unless loving arms enfold her
Sitting on a towel
down on Netley shore
eating bread...
