Are You Willing To Part With Everything To Follow Jesus?

Listen to the parable of the two sons: "But what do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first one and said, 'Son, go and work today in the vineyard.' 'I will not,' he replied. But later he changed his mind and went. Then the man went to the second son and told him the same thing. 'I will, sir,' he said. But he did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?" "The first," they answered. Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you. For John came to you in a righteous way and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him." Matthew 21:28-32

The parable of the two sons has great implications for all those who hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. This gospel is simple, yet is the most demanding call we will ever have to answer. How we respond to this calling has eternal consequences. All of mankind are separated from God and His kingdom because of sin. However, each of us upon hearing the gospel are offered a new life in Christ if we choose to turn away from this world and follow Jesus. Just as in the parable of the two sons above, many make the claim that they will surrender their lives in this world and follow Jesus, but they never truly choose to do so forfeiting their very souls. Yet others who initially reject the gospel for various reasons, in the end, do turn away from their lives in this world and choose to follow Jesus forevermore.

The gospel is a free gift for all who are called (have heard and understood the message), and yet, only a few will be chosen (those who actually surrender everything to follow Jesus). There are only two paths for mankind to follow in this world. The first is the narrow path whereby we turn away from our lives in this world to follow Jesus, and the second is when we choose to follow any other path (religion, churchianity, paganism, etc.). Those choosing the first path, the narrow path, will enjoy eternal life with the Lord forevermore. However, those who are not willing to surrender everything in this world (understand this, God knows the true intentions of your heart) will remain separated from God forevermore for choosing to walk on the broad path that leads to destruction. This is why Jesus said, "For many are called, but few are chosen." Matthew 22:14

Regrettably, the prince of this world, Satan, has relentlessly worked to create many counterfeit gospels that are believed by many in this world. These false gospels are taught throughout the world in churches and by religious minded people who blindly believe these lies. However, beware, "Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:12 Therefore, the true gospel is not about religious acts or the following of manmade doctrines and practices like those found in today's local church system. Instead, it is about a daily walk with Jesus along the narrow path that the Holy Spirit, as promised by Jesus, will guide us along. It is a supernatural spiritual walk along the narrow path, as opposed to natural man's path that leads its followers to eternal destruction.

Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh is born of flesh, but spirit is born of the Spirit. Do not be amazed that I said, 'You must be born again.' The wind blows where it wishes. You hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit." John 3:5-8 Therefore, mankind is born of water, but those who are chosen are those who are spiritually reborn meaning by the power of the Holy Spirit. The only path to heaven is the narrow path which leads to the narrow gate of heaven Jesus spoke of. This path can only be followed by those who are chosen and who are born again. Thus, this can only happen supernaturally and not by following the many teachings of mankind. Instead, this is an act of the power of the Holy Spirit whereby all those who are "chosen" are spiritually reborn.

Therefore, none of this is possible without a true full surrender of one's soul in this world to follow Jesus. It does not happen by saying a sinner's pray, going to a church, reading a bible, or hanging around others claiming to be Christians. This can only happen when you give up your life, totally! You stop living your life for you and for the rest of time live your life for the Lord and His kingdom. Many think they have already done this, but just as with the rich young man Jesus spoke with, they are not willing to part with EVERYTHING in this world to follow Jesus. They live compromised lives that lead them away from heaven. What path are you following?
