Are You Out To Pasture?

I think we all might be a little guilty of this to some extent. We get into a worship groove. We have our Christian routine that becomes another predictable part of our week. In essence, we’ve decided how we want to feed our walk with the Lord and we are now out in the pasture chewing on the tall grass. There’s no need to walk any further than the next green clump. No need to explore beyond our usual herd.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)

I’d like to encourage everyone, including myself, to move away from the herd, find a nice hill from which to get a good look around, then move off in a new direction. Seek something beyond grazing on the tall grass. Consider how you might better use your talents and resources to commit your life to the Lord.

“May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us — yes, establish the work of our hands.” Psalm 90:17 (NIV)

I can hear the Lord calling your name. He has a special task for you to perform. Can you hear His voice? Look out across the pasture. Can you see the direction the Lord wants you to go? There will always be much to be done in His name. We delude ourselves if we believe there is nothing more we can do to fulfill our mission to follow Jesus.

“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matthew 9:35-38 (NIV)

We need to stop grazing and get to work.
